Good Morning!

Traveling with kids is Always a little stressful, throw in a Pandemic and the stress levels can go WAY UP!

That being said, traveling with kids is still so very rewarding in the memory making department! It just takes a little more of the 3 P's!

Planning, Practice and Patience!

PLANNING:

Okay, you've booked a vacation! You're all excited! And then you see it the "Mask Requirements Warning" and your heart sinks a little bit when you think of trying get your 2yo or 3yo to keep a mask on. I know. I've been there! so let's start with What can you do during the planning process to help!

First, Mask Selection! Finding the right mask for your child is so important! The number one complaint I hear from people is "It keeps falling off their face" or "they say it hurts their ears" etc. So let's talk what exactly is important when helping your child pick out their mask!

SIZE, FIT, COMFORT, and FUN!

My daughter hated any type of mask that was Itchy, rough, too many folds, or too many layers. if the ear loops were too big she constantly pulled it down, too tight- MELT DOWN.

So we found ones she liked, and made sure we let HER pick out the pattern of the ones she liked! Letting your child feel like they are helping make decisions on what they wear is always a win!

There are other things to consider- Here is a link of Different mask/mask accessories that may help your child wear a mask.

Adjustable Mask:

3D Face Bracket (keeps the mask off the child's face):

Adjustable Face Mask Extender:

Once you have your mask selected its time for...

PRACTICE:

You may live in an area where face masks are not required or not enforced in schools, therefore your child will not be used to them, OR your child is too young for school and then masks are REALLY weird for them! First thing is to introduce it to your child and explain why you have to wear them and what they are meant for. Once the WHY is established you can lead by example. Start by wearing masks in the stores that you take your child to. Remind them "we are going inside and so we have to wear our mask" take the time to help your child properly apply their mask and let them watch you put yours on as well.

Wearing masks around your house can help them as well- set timers - make them wear it while watching a show, reading a book etc. - I know these measures can sound extreme but I also know that depending on your airline attendant or vacation you go on, places can be very strict and not lenient with kids, no matter their age!

And last but not least ...

Patience:

Is your child going to enjoy wearing a mask at first? Probably not! Are they going to throw fits, even when they have worn the masks without issue in the past? YES!

This is where Patience and Positivity come in! - Does you child need a minute before they put their mask on- take them to the bathroom and let them chill without a mask in a stall for a minute, or take them outside (when possible) Are they allowed to have a mask off while eating and drinking- GET THAT KID A SNACK AND DRINK STAT!

Kids will have a melt down with or without a mask, don't let the masks deter you from having fun! Stay Positive and speak positively about the mask and its purpose. When we as their "Captain" of the "Team" are positive, it helps the rest of the "teammates"/Family members stay positive too!

So lets Review:

1: Planning: Pick out the Right Mask- Comfortable, Adjustable, and FUN

2: Practice: Wear the mask around the house or in local stores

3: Patience: Remind yourself that your Positive attitude (or lack thereof) WILL have an impact on your child!

I hope this post helps you and your child in your Mask Endeavors! haha
